Choosing The Best Chicken Incubators — Tips

by chickeni on August 7, 2010

There was a time when farmers were proud to build their own chicken incubator, because they brought the experience of years along with their do-it-yourself skills. However, you do not have to go through that procedure now, because you could choose the best made-to-measure chicken incubator in the market quite easily.

But before you go around choosing an incubator which best suits your needs and requirements, you would need to look at the hatching space and the number of eggs which you are going to be placing in the incubator. The main job of a chicken incubator is to make sure that there is a favourable environment best suited to the hatching of chicken eggs. That means a really good incubator is going to have a thermostat as well as a thermometer. The thermometer is going to keep the temperature of the chicken incubator at the exactly right point. Some chicken incubators also have a high wattage bulb placed in them, to keep the temperature regulated at a proper level.

The thermostat is going to be used to increase or decrease the temperature, as and when required. Really good chicken incubators are constructed in such a manner that there is plenty of proper and necessary airflow ventilating the unit. That is because the developing chicks as well as the fertilised eggs need plenty of oxygen to flourish and grow properly. So make sure that your choice of chicken incubators has this facility.

If you are hatching your chickens in a really humid atmosphere, you might want an incubator which has a wet bulb thermometer, which is going to check the humidity level. It means that if there is any sort of precipitation in the unit, it is going to be noted and regulated by the wet bulb thermometer. So, you may want to add that facility to your chicken incubators requirements right away!
